Radio Frequency IDentification
RFID “is a technology that uses radio waves to transfer data from an electronic tag, called RFID tag or label, attached to an object through a reader for the purpose of identifying and tracking the object.” (Wikipedia). For those in the UK, it’s how Oyster cards work on the London underground.
The technology is quickly becoming the newest craze for marketeers and brands. Coca-Cola’s amusement park in Israel let riders Like certain attractions using the RFID bracelets. Renault proposed something similar during the Amsterdam Auto Show. However, Ushuaia Ibiza Hotel seems to have embraced it completely by posting different stations around the hotel. In different locations, an RFID bracelet holder could either check-in, like, or even update their profile picture. The technology seems to work safely and quickly, allowing multiple users to update in the heat of the action.
